Our Impact

The impact our program has on our community is clear. Over each six-week summer session, our students show consistent gains in literacy and math of on average, 2-3 months as measured by pre- and post-standardized assessments. Our program model mitigates learning loss and sends children back to school prepared and ready to learn alongside their peers.

In addition to academic gains, evaluations consistently find that over one six-week summer session, HBK students:

• Improve social skills
• Show increased self-confidence and motivation
• Demonstrate greater willingness to try new things
• Record higher school-year attendance
• Develop greater interest in nutrition
• Learn to swim
• Show improved graduation rates, and increased rates of continuing education or training after high school
